JACK - Update and Pictures
________________________________________________________________
Hi Deb,
An
update on Jack. He is doing wonderful, I think he hasn't had
very much contact with people that cared about him in these later
stages of his life as he follows me every place I go and sleeps right
at my bedside at night.
I
didn't hear from Coral; I called and left a message on her phone but
am thinking we had the wrong area code for NC because 864 is for
SC...... but don't worry and many thanks for the offer . I had him
groomed by my lady. She called me back and knocked off a little money
(because
he’s a rescue)
so she did him. He had to have his tummy shaved
and most of the longer hair on his back legs had to be cut off. The mats
behind his ears were bigger than my fist and his nails curled under making
it hard for him to walk. He looks BEAUTIFUL now…and smells much better.
They had to bath him three times.

He
is a love. He sits, lies down, speaks, shakes his paw, stays and heels
like a pro. He has arthritis on his back and lower legs or the back it's self
which they gave me some sort of pain meds for that which I have to check,
I know some of those are hard on the liver.
He
only weighs 110lbs and is a BIG, LONG boy and I can feel his backbone
and ribs. In fact his backbone is almost visible through his hair. I have an
appointment with my vet on Wed. to have a few tests run on him. I have never
had an older Newfie before and I want to check out his heart, (he tends to pant
quite a bit like it takes a lot for him to do some things) and see what my vet
thinks
is best for him, his heart and the arthritis.

Anyway, the one thing that he does is wants me to hold his head close to my
chest. He will stand for hours if I will hold his head up against me and while
that
is going on I can feel the deepest sighs of relief or something. It is hard to
explain
but I can tell you it makes me tear up, like he is
thinking "just hold me for a while...just a while longer...”
I
believe this beautiful creature is one of the best things that has ever happened
in
my life and I am thankful for just the chance to take care of him every day.
Here are a few pictures I took of him after he was groomed. I took pictures
before I
took him to be groomed but they really don't show what condition he was really
in.
Anyway, thought I would update you. Thanks for all you did,
Anne
